We continue our club's history of philanthropy by supporting The Ronald McDonald House in Greenville for 2018-2019.  The Ronald McDonald House is a home to critically ill or injured children and their families, providing hope, encouragement and comfort when they need it most. At any time of day or night, families come to the Ronald McDonald House in search of a place to stay within steps of their child resident at an area hospital.  They fulfill this need along with meals, transportation and compassionate support—all the comforts of home.

As our community and pediatric medical services have grown, so has the need for the house.  In years past, families had to be turned away because there was not enough room to house them.  In response to that critical need, a new wing is opening June 21, 2018,  which will more than double the size.  The Ronald McDonald House is funded by the generosity of local members of the Greenville community and local franchises. Each month at the Newcomers Coffee, a wish list of the current needs of the Ronald McDonald House is posted on the bulletin board, and there is a donation box at the sign-in table for those wishing to make a monetary donation.

Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year, offering our members various ways to support their valiant efforts.  Newcomers provide dinners every month for families, on the 3rd Thursday of the month. The dates are:

 June 21, 2018 December 20, 2018
 July 19, 2018 January 17, 2019
 August 16, 2018 February 21, 2019
 September 20, 2018 March 21, 2019
 October 18, 2018 April 18, 2019
 November 15, 2018 May 16, 2019

Additional opportunities will be published monthly in the Newsletter and on our Message Board. Members are invited to contact Barbara Baker, Philanthropy Chair, with any questions or ideas.
